Psychotherapy Services
Today's world can be an overwhelming and stressful place. However, the very things that challenge us the most, hold our greatest opportunities for love, connection and joy. My practice weaves together advances in neuroscience, mindfulness meditation and evidence-based psychotherapy practices (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Internal Family Systems and Somatic Experiencing).
If you or loved ones are struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, substance use, ADHD, neurodiversity, work or relationship difficulties, I can help. I work with individual adults, couples, children over 7yo, and families.
Welcome To My Practice!
My work in the mental health field spans over 38 years. Over this time I have worked in neuroscience and neuropsychology research (at UCSF), community mental health (Napa County Child and Family Services, Aldea and Mentis), and school-based mental health services (at NVUSD). I have over 40 years of experience studying and practicing Buddhism, and am a certified mindfulness instructor. I have been in private practice since 2006.
As your therapist, I see my role as that of a guide. I believe that you possess the wisdom you need to understand what is right for you. I can help you see where you are stuck, identify where you want to go, and give you the tools you need to get there.
One of the main reasons people come to therapy is because they are having problems in their relationships - with partners, parents, children or at work. Often, communication problems are at the root of this. Through the use of Non-Violent Communication (NVC), I can help you communicate your needs and feelings in ways that others can understand. Conversely, NVC practices can also teach you how to listen, so that those around you feel heard and understood.
I have extensive experience working with children and helping parents navigate emotional or behavioral problems with their children. This includes problems with anxiety, ADHD, aggression, depression, peer relationships and neurodiversity.
I have also had extensive training in treating trauma. Trauma and difficult childhood experiences can leave us with distorted views of ourselves and the world. I can help you learn how to identify and change unhelpful thinking and behavioral patterns, and safely navigate difficult emotions. Through the use of Internal Family Systems Therapy and mindfulness-based practices, I can help you heal the underlying the wounds from the past and start to create the life you want.
